Join us at the Matchless Mine Historic Site for s’mores and mining folklore stories. The Matchless Mine closes every year on Labor Day, so this Last Haul is for everyone to visit the site before September 8th, 2026. S’more supplies will be provided and a propane fire pit will be used to toast marshmallows.

Temporary Exhibit: The Climax High Altitude Observatory

The National Mining Museum is welcoming a new temporary exhibit about Climax’s High Altitude Observatory. Admission to the Museum gives you access to this exhibit, located between our Coal Mine and Minerals Matter galleries.

Pigments & Painting: Earth Pigments Watercolor Workshop

  • Ages 14+

Learn about how we have been using rocks and minerals as pigments since our ancestors have been drawing on cave walls with our Educator Tessa Lindahl, MA. After you learn about pigments, you will paint your own watercolor piece inspired by the warm autumn colors. There is limited availability, so please sign up in advanced! All supplies are provided.
