About

Exciting New Initiatives and Enhancements
In 2024, we are proud to announce several significant advancements that reflect our dedication to both our mission and our staff. This year, we have taken important steps to improve the Museum’s operations and employee well-being:Comprehensive Insurance Coverage: We now offer 80% coverage of insurance plans for our staff, ensuring their health and security.Retirement Contributions: We are matching 3% of retirement contributions, helping our employees plan for a secure future.Elevated Salaries: We have increased salaries to ensure they meet living wage standards, demonstrating our commitment to fair compensation.

Addressing Critical Infrastructure Needs
Based on recent assessments, including the CAP (Collections Assessment Program) and Historic Structures Assessment, we have identified urgent infrastructure needs that must be addressed to maintain and enhance our facility.

Our 2024 Fundraising Goals
To continue our work and address these pressing needs, we have set a 2024 fundraising goal of $274,108. Your generous support will help us achieve the following objectives:

1. Elevator Repairs - $40,000: The Lake County Board of County Commissioners has awarded $50,000 to promote accessibility, but we need an additional $40,000 to complete the $90,000 project. The elevator repairs will ensure that all floors of the Museum are accessible to individuals with disabilities and enable us to transfer collections and exhibits between floors.
2. Matchless Mine Stabilization and ADA Accessibility - $26,475: Phase II of this project involves the permanent stabilization and ADA accessibility build-out. We have received $50,000 from History Colorado’s State Historical Fund for this phase, but we need $26,475 to cover the remaining costs. Phase I was successfully completed with the support of History Colorado and NMHFM income.
3. Lighting Upgrade - $10,000: We need to update our fluorescent lighting to energy-efficient LED throughout the Hall of Fame, two exhibit spaces, the library, and the administrative wing to comply with legal requirements and improve energy efficiency.
4. Website Upgrade - $7,000: We plan to transition our website from the Webflow platform to WordPress, allowing our staff to make updates independently. This upgrade will enhance our online presence and accessibility.
5. Mineral Collection Cases and Environmental Monitoring and Collection Preservation - $80,633: We require new cases for the mineral collections in the Hennebach Wing and investment in environmental monitoring to preserve our valuable collections. We have been awarded $9,997.35 through a Preservation Assistance Grant courtesy of the National Endowment for the Humanities to support the preservation and conservation of our extensive collection of artifacts. In addition, we are one of two Colorado institutions to receive a prestigious Saving America’s Treasures Grant from the National Park Service to further this goal. We have been awarded $74,986, but we need $80,633 to match the NPS grant.
6. Operations and Programming Support - $100,000: This crucial funding will support ongoing facility maintenance, operational costs, and our educational programming, ensuring we continue to deliver high-quality experiences for our visitors.
